Internet privacy advocates have been on the warpath against CISA. The software industry group, Business Software Alliance (BSA) signed a letter earlier this month urging lawmakers to resume work on cyber security legislation and sent it to the congress. In response, a privacy group launched an online protest “YouBetrayedUs,” calling out the BSA for ignoring user privacy and urged supporters to boycott the companies. One spokesman for one of the companies involved said the BSA letter does not explicitly support CISA, but stresses the need for stronger cybersecurity protections in general, and here you can read what Salesforce had to say on this matter…

1) Salesforce Statement on CISA

The Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act (CISA), is a proposed law that “supposedly” will improve cybersecurity in the United States through enhanced sharing of information. The law would allow the sharing of Internet traffic information between the U.S. government and technology and manufacturing companies. This law was introduced in the U.S Senate on July 10, 2014, but has not yet been considered or voted upon by the full Senate.

A new version of the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act is scheduled to go in front of the Senate this fall, and right after this information was released, Burke Norton, Chief Legal Officer at Salesforce came forward with the following statement: “At Salesforce, trust is our number one value and nothing is more important to our company than the privacy of our customers’ data,” adding that “contrary to reports, Salesforce does not support CISA and has never supported CISA.”

All of the turbulence encouraged Marc Benioff to weigh-in on the issue, and he tweeted: “The letter clearly was a mistake and doesn’t imply CISA support. We need to clarify. I’m against it.”

Benioff’s tweets dissing CISA spread quickly, and soon after, the BSA itself issued a statement saying it doesn’t like CISA either, nor two similar bills  also in the works.

3) The Evolution of Wave

wave2

At Dreamforce 2015, Jamie Domenici, Salesforce’s VP of marketing for the Analytics Cloud, discussed the evolution of Wave and its impact for business users. Domenici outlined Salesforce’s application strategy that aims to connect products, such as its Sales and Service Clouds, to Wave so users can view their key performance indicators and dashboards in one place and take immediate action within the app.

“We want users to have the ability to take all of their data wherever it is stored, get insight from it and take it a step further and take action on it from where they work,” Domenici said.

New reports and dashboards for the Sales Cloud, combined with Salesforce Wave visualization, will replace much more basic reporting capabilities previously within that app.

Domenici also discussed the Salesforce Wave capabilities for sales managers and future plans to integrate Wave into the Marketing Cloud and more.

4) Iot Cloud Not Available Until Next Year

IoT-Cloud-Salesforce

The IoT Cloud is a new service for storing and analyzing real-time data, and then integrating it with the company’s core customer relationship management product. Salesforce says it’s preparing its users for the transition from an old reactive form of customer service to a new proactive model.

They made the big announcement about the IoT Cloud Powered by Salesforce Thunder this year at Dreamforce 2015, but it’s a streaming data capability that is not likely to become generally available until next year’s Dreamforce.

Thunder will enter pilot testing in the first half of 2016 with general availability later in the year.
